LAZIO are considering making a move for Ipswich goalkeeper Matteo Sereni.

The shot-stopper spent last season on loan to Brescia and has made it known he does not wish to return to England.

The Roman side are on the look-out for a new understudy to first choice Angelo Peruzzi.

Luca Marchegiani was in that role but his contract with the Rome giants has expired and he will not be offered a new deal.

Manager Roberto Mancini knows Sereni from their days together at Sampdoria.

The shot-stopper has a contract with the Suffolk club until 2005 but is looking for a move back to his homeland.

Lazio have also targeted Piacenza's Matteo Guardalben in case they fail to set up a deal with Ipswich for Sereni.
