LAZIO have started negotiations to sign Udinese striker Roberto Muzzi but they have lined up Perugia's Nicola Amoruso as a back-up option.

Following the sale of Hernan Crespo to Internazionale, Lazio coach Roberto Mancini is eager to bolster his attacking options.

Though Bernardo Corradi arrived at Stadio Olimpico as a makeweight in the Crespo deal, Mancini is eyeing up additional firepower.

Muzzi has been tipped to leave Udinese throughout the summer, although he is keen for a quick resolution to the negotiations.

"If they are really interested in me, they have to end the negotiations by September 13, otherwise I won't accept," said Muzzi.

"I have big respect for the Pozzo family (Udinese owners). I know in Rome they are waiting on me but if the affair won't be closed immediately, I prefer to think of a season with Udinese."

The potential stumbling block to the deal is which Lazio player would head to Udine as part of the package.

Udinese want Simone Inzaghi but the striker has refused to be included in the exchange due to personal problems.

Lazio would prefer to offload one of a trio of players but neither Guerino Gottardi, Dino Baggio nor Francesco Colonnese have any intention of leaving the Eternal City at present.

If Lazio fail to push through the capture of Muzzi, they will switch their sights to former Juventus marksman Amoruso.
