Transfer news: Roma say Kevin Strootman not for sale

Roma president James Pallotta has reiterated that reported Manchester United target Kevin Strootman is not for sale.

The Dutch international has been heavily linked with a reunion with former national team coach Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

A summer of speculation failed to produce a Premier League deal, but a fresh approach in January has been mooted.

Roma, though, consider the highly-rated midfielder to be indispensable.

They have eased him through his rehabilitation from a cruciate ligament injury and claim they are ready to fend off any bids – however tempting they may be – for the 24-year-old.

Pallotta told the Leaders on Sport conference: “It is just not happening. I have told the papers they should stop wasting paper. We don’t have any interest in selling Kevin.

“As business people, when people call and say ‘we want your player’, you are going to listen to them. You have to do that.

“That doesn’t mean you are going to make a decision that, £75million, bang, you hit the bid. That is not the way it is going to work with us.

“For others, maybe. Our view is we want to put a great team out there. Our goal is stability.”
