Francesco Totti insists he will stay at Roma after the Serie A side brushed off earlier comments that the club's talisman could leave Stadio Olimpico.
The long-serving forward, who missed a penalty in Monday's 1-1 draw with Juventus, told Italian media at Roma's Christmas party that he had 'often thought of leaving' the club.
However, at the end of the evening, the 35-year-old played down fears he may quit the Eternal City by pledging his commitment to Roma.
"I know someone was worried because of my words," Totti told
Sky Sport Italia.
"I confirm that I was insulted on the street, but I can reassure that I will stay at Roma."
Spontaneous
Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini shrugged off any fears raised by Totti's comments and also reiterated the club's desire to secure midfielder Daniele De Rossi on a new contract.
Sabatini said: "The words of Totti? He says his state of mind, he's a spontaneous guy and this episode that happened hurt him.
"It's not a problem for us. Totti will never go away, he is Roma and Roma is eternal.
"We are glad that he will stay here for the duration of the contract, also as manager.
"As for De Rossi, we need champions that make us win games and he is one of them, as is Totti. We work hard on his contract and our intention is to keep De Rossi."
