Roma have confirmed they are on the brink of signing Sporting Gijon defender Jose Angel.
The 21-year-old left-back has been a reported target of Barcelona, Manchester City, Malaga and Fiorentina.
But Angel's agent revealed earlier on Friday that Roma were leading the race to sign the promising Spaniard.
And now Roma's sporting director, Walter Sabatini, has admitted the Italian outfit are hoping to complete the move over the weekend.
"Jose Angel will arrive in the next 24 hours," he said.
"I think the deal can be completed between today and tomorrow. But it all has to be confirmed by Gijon."
Angel is under contract at Sporting until June 2014 and his hometown club have valued him at around £15million.
His agent said the appointment of former Spain international Luis Enrique as the new Roma coach could clinch the deal for the Serie A side.
