Palermo have admitted Andrea Caracciolo could join Roma in January.
Caracciolo's future has been the subject of intense speculation for some time as he has failed to hold down a regular place in the Palermo starting XI.
A number of clubs are thought to be watching Caracciolo's situation in Sicily with Liverpool holding a long-standing interest in the rangy forward.
Roma are thought to be favourites to sign the Italian international and Palermo's sports director Rino Foschi has hinted a deal could be in the offing in the New Year.
"Caracciolo to Roma in January is not an unrealistic idea," he told Teleradiostereo Sport.
"Caracciolo is a forward of great value but we already have Amauri, who has been in the team, and we believe in him.
"Just for this reason, if the situation does not change, we could take into consideration a loan in January or co-ownership, also with Roma, giving us the possibility to bring him back to the Rosanero."
