Roma are poised to make a move for Lecce's star striker Mirko Vucininc, after his club were relegated from Serie A.
The young Serbia & Montenegro striker has long been admired at the Stadio Olimpico, but the player decided to postpone talks of a transfer earlier this season to focus on Lecce's survival.
The team's demotion from the top Italian league, however, seems to have opened the door for a move, despite his contract at Stadio Via Del Mare running until 2009.
The 22-year-old, who scored from the penalty spot in the 2-2 draw between the sides at Lecce in December, has got a third of his side's total league goals this season.
He also received the award for the best foreign Under-21 player in Serie A last season, which may ease fears that he would struggle at a top-five club like Roma.
Internazionale have also been linked with a move for the player in the past.
He is valued at about é¼10 million, but it appears an agreement may be reached for é¼9 million.
