Francesco Totti has hinted that he will quit international football after the World Cup finals.

The Roma skipper is currently battling to overcome a broken ankle in time for the tournament and, although he is only 29, he says Germany 2006 will be his Azzurri swansong.

‚Ç£I really want to be a part of the World Cup because it will be my last competition with the national jersey," he confirmed.

Totti's last World Cup performance was marred by his dismissal during Italy's shock second round defeat at the hands of co-hosts South Korea.

He then had a miserable time of it in Euro 2004 having been handed a four-match ban for spitting at Christian Poulsen after the midfielder had goaded him throughout a clash with Denmark.

Now he has vowed to atone for those perormances, adding: "The last World Cup and European Championship didn't go as I had planned, but I will be in Germany and I'll make up for them."
