Totti unruffled by Cassano

Francesco Totti has spoken for the first time about striker Antonio Cassano's departure.

Roma captain Francesco Totti has spoken for the first time about the departure of unruly striker Antonio Cassano.

The Italian international clinched a move to Real Madrid earlier this month after failing to agree a new contract at Stadio Olimpico where he also was not on the best of terms with many of the playing squad.

The diplomatic Totti has refrained from criticising his former team-mate directly, although he did respond to Cassano's claim that former World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane held his new colleague in higher esteem than Totti.

"I wish Cassano good luck," Totti told Roma's official television channel. "I hope in Madrid he will be able to express all his potential, I'm sure that some of that is his football.

"Zidane? He expressed a respectable opinion. Evidently he thinks that but a lot of other people don't."
