Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has interjected himself into the debate surrounding the Giallorossi future of striker Antonio Cassano.

Despite Roman offers to extend his contract the Italian international has steadfastly refused to commit his future to Spalletti's side.

Until recently the coach appears to have remained aloof of the wranglings but has now issued Cassano with a ultimatum.

"Either Cassano accepts the contract offered to him or he must consider leaving to play for another side," said Spalletti.

"The club have made an important offer which to me seems correct."

Cassano came under fresh fire following a penalty miss in the Uefa Cup clash with Crvena Zvezda and that has led to suggestions that high-ranking officials at Stadio Olimpico would like to see the player omitted from the first team.

However, Spalletti insists it is his prerogative as to whether or not the temperamental front man is selected and opted to play Cassano from the start in Roma's 2-2 draw at Lecce on Sunday.

"I do have choices," added Spalletti, "I've called him up because, apart from the penalty episode, he continues to perform well."
