Romania international defender Cristian Chivu is a doubt for Roma's crunch relegation clash against Atalanta.

The stopper was forced out of Sunday's goalless draw against Lazio after just 32 minutes with an ankle knock.

It had been feared Chivu, who was replaced by Matteo Ferrari against the Biancoceleste, fractured his ankle.

However, scans taken after the game showed minor ankle damage and not a prolonged period on the sidelines.

Roma are expected to rest the defender for the next three days in a bid to maximise his chances of making a swift recovery and feature against Atalanta.

Coach Bruno Conti can ill afford any more key players to miss the game with Francesco Totti already out due to suspension.
