Juventus stretched their lead at the top of Serie A after they beat Brescia while Milan suffered a shock defeat at Livorno.
The big two have opened up a gap from the chasing pack in Italy, but The Old Lady forged ahead on Sunday with Milan's slip-up.
Fabio Capello's side played host to Brescia in Turin and made no mistake in registering a 2-0 victory thanks to David Trezeguet and a Maurizio Domizzi own goal to seal the points before half time.
Carlo Ancelotti's Milan are chasing the leaders, but the gap widened to five points as the Rosseneri lost 1-0 at Livrono courtesy of Corrado Colombo's goal, and their frustration showed itself as Alessandro Nesta was sent off in stoppage time.
Third-placed Udinese also lost ground as they suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Reggina, with goals from Emiliano Bonazzoli and Marco Borriello doing the damage.
Sampdoria moved up into fifth spot after a 2-1 win at Lazio, with Vitaly Kutuzov and Francesco a Flachi penalty putting the visitors 2-0 up inside four minutes.
Tommaso Rocchi pulled a goal back for Lazio just after the hour mark but they could not find an equaliser.
Roma climbed up to sixth spot with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Fiorentina.
Fiorentina broke the deadlock on 20 minutes when Ivan Pelizzoli somehow let Enzo Maresca's shot squirm through his grasp and into the net.
The lead proved short-lived, as Antonio Cassano drew Roma level four minutes later.
Vincenzo Montella netted the winner for Roma on 67 minutes when he squeezed the ball home from an acute angle.
Highly-rated striker Valeri Bojinov hit the back of the net again and his goal was enough for Lecce to beat Atalanta 1-0 at home.
Messina also earned a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Parma, with Arturo Di Napoli's winner coming ten minutes from time.
Palermo slipped down to sixth place in the table after they were held to a goalless draw at second-bottom Siena.
