Bayer Leverkusen coach Klaus Augenthaler has accused Roma star Francesco Totti of "attempted murder" for his two-footed lunge on Carsten Ramelow.

The Italian international left Ramelow with bruising over his back after landing on him with his studs during the fiery UEFA Champions League encounter behind closed doors in Rome.

"That was simply a case of attempted murder," fumed Augenthaler.

"It was grievous bodily harm and a clear red-card offence."

Club doctor Dieter Trzolek backed up the Bayer coach's view of the incident.

"Totti had obviously mistaken football for Kung-Fu." commented Trzolek.

However, Roma coach Luigi Delneri accused his opposite number of making a meal of the incident.

"He talks too much" said Delneri.

"He should sit in the stands and not on the bench - football is a man's sport."
