Milan ace Andrei Shevchenko hopes the Rossoneri can win the title with a win over Roma this weekend to complete a memorable year.

The prolific hit-man has never won the scudetto as yet in Italy and he is desperate to get his hands on the championship.

"I have never been so close to the title and now it is there within touching distance," Shevchenko told Corriere della Sera.

"It would be the perfect ending after five years of waiting.

"I have a really good feeling about scoring an unforgettable goal. The match won't be absolutely decisive because in case we lose we would have two other chances to put it right.

"It isn't a final - we have three of them."

Shevchenko has inspired Milan to the top of the league with 21 goals as he leads the goalscoring charts in Serie A, but the Ukrainian is refusing to take anything for granted.

"It's not over yet, but we are at the crossroads. It's all too easy to tumble from joy to disappointment.

Meanwhile, Roma have suffered a blow on the eve of the game with Cristian Chivu ruled out of the clash through injury.

The Romanian defender picked up a leg injury during Wednesday's 5-1 win over Germany which forced him off in the first half of the game.

Roma coach Fabio Capello confirmed the blow that Chivu had failed to recover from the knock.

"Chivu won't be fit. He underwent scans and for the moment he is not fit," bemoaned Capello.
