ROMA will bid to sign Edgar Davids again next year, president Franco Sensi has revealed.

The Giallorossi are long-term admirers of the busy Juventus midfielder, but were unable to complete a deal before the transfer window closed this week.

Undaunted, Sensi will continue his pursuit of the Dutch international in 2004, knowing that the former Milan man will be out of contract in the summer.

"Davids told us he would be willing to come to us," Sensi told Corriere dello Sport.

"He's 30 years old and he can play almost another three seasons at a high level.

"If, at the end of the season, he will really be free, we could take into consideration the possibility to sign him.

"But times are not good."

Sensi admits a sense of disappointment that he was unable to lure the Juve star to Stadio Olimpico.

"With him, (Olivier) Dacourt and Emerson, we could have had a fantastic midfield," he lamented. "But, now, we still have a really good midfield."
