Reggina interested in Maniero

REGGINA are interested in signing Venezia's Filippo Maniero after the star striker expressed his desire to find a new club in Italy's top-flight following his side's relegation to Serie B last season.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a number of Serie A clubs after wanting a move away from the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo.

Venezia chairman Maurizio Zamparini offered Maniero to Serie A giants Roma last week but both sides were unable to come to an agreement.

Reggina's interest in Maniero could be hampered by the veteran's desire not to live in Southern Italy, where the Stadio Oreste Granillo club is based.

Maniero will look to try and find a new club in Northern Italy this week and Zamperini is keen to sell him before the new season starts.

Should he be unable to find a suitable move, Maniero might consider a transfer to the Reggio di Calabria side ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, both Zamperini and Roma chairman Franco Sensi have had their friendly relationship fall out on the weekend after the two could not come to terms over the ownership of Serie B side Palermo.

Zamparini was close to buying the Sicilian club but Sensi - who currently owns Palermo - refused to sell.
