Newcastle midfielder Jonas Gutierrez continued his comeback by playing the full 90 minutes for the club’s U21 side as they drew 1-1 with a Gateshead XI in a friendly.
The 31-year-old Argentine returned to action last Monday, after overcoming testicular cancer, when he played for 87 minutes in the U21s’ 4-1 win over West Ham.
That was his first match since April and he enjoyed another run-out on a cold Tuesday afternoon at Newcastle’s Benton base.
Italian left-back Davide Santon was also in action against Gateshead as he made his first appearance since April after being sidelined with a knee injury.
The 23-year-old played for an hour before being taken off as a precaution due to an ankle knock.
Santon played a key role in Newcastle’s goal when he teed up Adam Campbell, although this was cancelled out late on by striker Michael Rankine’s header for the Conference side.
