Inter Milan director-general Marco Fassone has insisted that coach Walter Mazzarri has faith in Fredy Guarin.
The Colombia international midfielder was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the summer, with Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United all linked with the 28-year-old.
However, Guarin remained at Inter and is now an important part of Mazzarri’s plans - something that Fassone believes demonstrates how much the club believes in him.
Fassone has also stated that the renewal of Mauro Icardi’s contract, which ends in June 2018, is not a priority at the moment for Inter.
“The coach is in his second year on our bench and he now knows the whole ‘Inter environment’,” Fassone told Sky Sport Italia.
“He can succeed in transferring and incorporating his own philosophy of play and mentality on to the players. The coach is very motivated and he is now our added value.
“As for Mauro and his renewal, I will say that there are other deadlines that we will have to face beforehand, but we will talk about that as well.
“And Guarin? I believe in Fredy and in the fact that Mazzarri has deployed him, demonstrating the confidence of the club.”
