Kjaer set to stay in capital after Silvestre exchange played down

Roma have played down speculation suggesting they want to sign Matias Silvestre from Palermo in exchange for Simon Kjaer. Both defenders have only been with their current clubs since last summer, with Kjaer joining Roma on loan from Wolfsburg. The Denmark international has failed to shine in his first season in the capital and he has been linked with a move back to Palermo, where he made his name earlier in his career. However, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has dismissed the reports and indicated that the club may take up the option to sign Kjaer permanently. Sabatini admits he is an admirer of Silvestre but says there are no plans to try and land the Argentine, who joined Palermo from Catania at the start of the season. "It's fantasy football," Sabatini told Media Gol. "Thinking and talking about such an operation is premature and highly unlikely. "I have great respect for Silvestre as he is an excellent player and Palermo did well to buy him. However, Kjaer is on a path with us."
