Rafa Benitez says he is likely to sign a defender in January after Walter Samuel was ruled out.

Samuel blow to force Benitez into market

Inter Milan chief Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he is likely to make a move for a defender in the January transfer window after Walter Samuel was ruled out for the rest of the season. Benitez has been linked with Liverpool's Daniel Agger, after Samuel underwent surgery on Tuesday. The Argentine stopper needed an operation on his knee after he suffered ligament damage, which means Benitez is short of defensive options. "We will try to do our best until January, then we will see if something could be done, considering Walter Samuel's injury," Benitez said. "We have lost an important player in an important position. "We have ideas and we will see what we will do. I've spoken with the president, I've spoken with [Marco] Branca [Inter's technical director] too. "We know we must work to arrive in January in a good standing position, and to see what we need, then we can work on the market and find the right balance."
