The Internazionale defender had been struggling with the problem for some time, but now hopes to have finally resolved the issue.
The injury kept him out of action midway through last season and returned to haunt him as the campaign drew to its close.
He was unable to go under the knife immediately after Inter secured the Serie A title due to his involvement at Euro 2008 with Romania.
However, his club have confirmed that the operation has gone to plan and are expecting him to make a return to first-team action in September.
