Internazionale midfielder Alvaro Recoba has been ruled out for four weeks with a hamstring problem.
The 30-year-old has only made three appearances for Inter this season and has now suffered a fresh setback in his bid to become a more regular starter.
Recoba has also been withdrawn from the Uruguay squad to play Georgia in a friendly game later month.
Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez had selected Recoba for the November 15 clash but has now been forced to change his plans.
Tabarez has decided not to call up a replacement, meaning his squad is down to 20 players.
