Internazionale captain Javier Zanetti has continued his rehabilitation after injury with a 30-minute appearance in a 3-1 friendly win over Swiss side Chiasso on Sunday.
The 32-year-old has not played since pulling an adductor muscle in his right leg during the opening day win over Treviso and it had been feared he would miss two to three months of action.
The Argentine's return will come as a boost to the Nerazzurri who have already lost midfielder and namesake Cristiano and fellow defender Sinisa Mihajlovic to injury.
Coach Roberto Mancini's casualties may also be accentuated with Dejan Stankovic limping out of Serbia and Montenegro's World Cup qualifier with Lithuania at the weekend.
Mancini is desperate for his side to recapture top form after their last match, a defeat to leaders Juventus, left the Giuseppe Meazza club trailing the Bianconeri by six points.
