Serie A round-up

Milan beat nine-man Roma 2-0 to go back to the head of Serie A.

Roma had Francesco Totti and Christian Panucci sent off as Milan moved back level with Juventus at the head of Serie A with a 2-0 win.

Tempers boiled over late on in Milan's comfortable win, with Hernan Crespo opening the scoring in the second half and then seeing Panucci dismissed for keeping out another goalbound header with his hand.

Andrea Pirlo dispatched the penalty with ease, and Roma captain Totti was dismissed when he kicked at an opponent late on in the defeat.

Juan Sebastian Veron was on target for third placed Internazionale as they overcame Fiorentina 3-2 at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso gave Inter the lead just before the half hour mark but by half time Fiorentina were level, courtesy of Giampaolo Pazzini's strike.

Veron restored the home side's advantage before defender Ivan Cordoba grabbed a third and then blotted his copybook with an own goal on 87 minutes.

The battle at the wrong end of the table saw Chievo Verona beat Brescia 3-2, largely thanks to a late brace from Sergio Pellissier.

Victor Mareco gave Brescia a first half lead but this was cancelled out by a Lorenzo D'Anna penalty on the hour and then Pellissier grabbed a double salvo in the final ten minutes.

Cagliari stole a point at Livorno after Nelson Abeijon netted a last minute equaliser in a 3-3 draw.

Cristiano Lucarelli and Igor Protti gave Livorno a two-goal lead but this was cancelled out by a quick-fire double from David Suazo just before half time.

Lucarelli looked to have stolen the spoils for Livorno with his second but Abeijon stole a late point for Cagliari.

Messina and Bologna fought out a 0-0 bore draw at the Stadio Giovanni Celeste.

UEFA Champions League chasers Sampdoria suffered a surprise 2-1 home defeat to bottom placed Atalanta.

Ayodele Makinwa netted for Sampdoria but saw his strike cancelled out by Cristiano Doni before Cesare Natali netted a surprise winner.

Udinese did just enough against Lecce as David Di Michele's double secured a 2-1 win - with the away side's response coming from Alex Pinardi.

Game of the day saw Parma score a last minute equaliser in a 3-3 home draw with Palermo.

Parma went behind when Paolo Cannavaro put through his own goal but levelled up matters when Domenico Morfeo netted on 19 minutes.

A Luca Toni penalty gave Palermo a lead and then Franco Brienza doubled their advantage just after half time.

However, a double from the prolific Alberto Gilardino secured a fighting point for Parma.
