Two goals in the last four minutes from Adriano and Obafemi Martins earned Inter an unlikely win against an unlucky Perugia.
Inter lived something of a charmed life in the opening exchanges of the first half with Fabiano Rodriguez and Cris Obodo both hitting the woodwork.
The visitors broke the deadlock on 24 minutes with Brazilian striker Adriano netting with a fine individual goal.
Perugia continued to push forward in the first half in search of an equaliser, but could not find a way past Francesco Toldo.
The hosts deservedly drew level five minutes after the break with veteran midfielder Eusebio Di Francesco heading home from close range.
Perugia then turned the game on its head with experienced hit-man Dario Hubner controlling inside the six-yard box before swivelling and firing home under Toldo.
Inter laid siege to the Perugia goal and drew level six minutes from time with Adriano drilling home from the left.
The visitors then grabbed the winner two minutes later when Martins raced clear from the halfway line and expertly rounded Zelijko Kalac before slotting into the empty net.
The win lifts Inter up to fifth, just one point behind Parma, while Perugia are staring the drop in the face.
