Roma return to the top of Serie A with three second half goals in the space of five minutes to defeat Chievo 3-0 at the Stadio Bentegodi.

A 0-0 first half saw little in terms of goal threat from Fabio Capello's men and it was The Flying Donkeys who were unlucky not to score after Daniel Franceschini hit Roma's bar with a rasping right-foot shot.

The visitors soon got to grips with the contest after the break, as John Carew forced Chievo goalkeeper Giorgio Frezzolini into a fine save.

But it was mid-way through the half that the match was decided, with Francesco Totti (pictured) breaking the deadlock on 67 minutes when he side-footed home Emanuele Mancini's low cross from the right to make it 1-0.

The Eternal City outfit made it two three minutes later as Totti returned the favour to Mancini with a fine cross-field ball that the Brazilian controlled and struck past Frezzolini on the half volley for 2-0.

Roma sealed victory two minutes after that as Mancini played provider with a cross towards an unmarked Antonio Cassano and he finished with a side foot volley to make it 3-0.

The win takes Roma above Milan at the top of the Serie A table - level on 30 points with Il Rossoneri but having a superior goal difference.

Christian Vieri was the two-goal hero for Internazionale as he gave them a 2-1 win over Perugia on Sunday.

The Italian international marksman is so often the hero for Inter and his goals on 25 and 80 minutes gave Alberto Zaccheroni's men the three points against Perugia, who made the closing stages uncomfortable with a late Giovanni Tedesco strike.

Parma moved up to fifth with a 2-1 win at Lecce thanks to a brace from Alberto Gilardino, who struck either side of a Javier Chevanton penalty to secure the points for the visitors.

Bottom side Ancona just failed to come back from three goals down at Bologna as they went down to a 3-2 defeat at Stadio Renato Della 'Ara.

The hosts went 3-0 up after 48 minutes thanks to an own goal from Fabio Bilica along with strikes from Carlo Nervo and Giuseppe Signori.

Emanuele Troise put through his own net to reduce the arrears and Goran Pandev's 78th minute goal set up a tense finish but Bologna held on for the victory.

Modena and Brescia played out a 1-1 draw with all the action coming in the final ten minutes of the match as Carlo Taldo put the hosts ahead only for Jonathan Bachini to grab a point for Brescia six minutes before time.

Francesco Flachi put Sampdoria ahead after just a minute of their home clash with Siena but only for Roberto D'Aversa to draw the visitors level seven minutes before the break.

Fabio Bazzani popped up to grab the winner for Sampdoria on 73 minutes to keep up their challenge for a European place.

Udinese are just a point further back behind Samp as they secured a 1-0 win over Reggina thanks to a goal from German striker Carsten Jancker three minutes before full time.
