Lazio have again moved to dismiss reports suggesting that Dejan Stankovic will leave the club in January for Internazionale.
New Internazionale coach Alberto Zaaccheroni had fuelled fresh speculation that Stankovic could be on his way to the Giuseppe Meazza by revealing he would like to have the Serbo-Montenegrin star at the club.
"The team is strong although it is worth considering a playmaker is lacking. It would be useful having a player like Stankovic, he had this role when I was at Lazio," Zaccheroni told La Stampa.
Lazio president Ugo Longo insists that Stankovic will stay at the club until the end of the season and that they are still talking over extending his deal.
"Stankovic will stay with us until June for sure," said Longo. "That is our primary intention for the player."
Stankovic's future is up in the air as his contract expires in the summer and as yet no new deal has been agreed and Lazio may decide to cash in on him rather than risk losing him for nothing.
