This was the Rome club's second straight win since Dino Zoff took over from Eriksson whilst Inter continued their season slump.
Argentinian star Hernan Crespo got Lazio off to a great start with a fourth minute opener which put the visitors on the back foot from the off.
Crespo latched onto Marcelo Salas's knock down from Pavel Nedved's corner and smashed the ball home.
Inter certainly deserved a share of the points through their effort and endeavour but found Angelo Peruzzi in fine form.
In the second half, the home side took control and Sebastien Frey was extremely busy, saving brilliantly from Salas.
However, in the 75th minute Lazio killed the game off, Dario Simic brought down former Manchester United winger Karel Poborsky in the box and Salas converted the spot kick to finish the scoring.
With the result Lazio move into third, six points behind arch-rivals Roma whilst Inter are mired in 12th.
The game was tainted somewhat by the return of racism into the Lazio stands as banners were unfolded with racial content, whilst Clarence Seedorf, Inter's midfielder, was booed throughout the game.
