Juventus’ title celebrations were put on hold after they lost 2-1 to mid-table Torino on Sunday.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side remain 14 points clear at the top of Serie A, with Lazio and Roma both failing to win below them, but they will have to wait another week to confirm their status as Italian champions.

Andrea Pirlo scored a magnificent free-kick to set the visitors on their way, but Matteo Darmian and Fabio Quagliarella’s goals either side of half-time secured a first derby victory in 20 years for Torino.

Lazio missed the opportunity to extend a three-point lead in the race for second, drawing 1-1 at home to 14th-placed Chievo.

On Saturday, Roma fell to a 2-1 defeat by Inter Milan, leaving the door open for Lazio to move ahead, but Alberto Paloschi’s second-half equaliser cancelled out Miroslav Klose’s opener at the Stadio Olimpico.

At the bottom of the table, Cesena moved a step closer to relegation with a 3-1 defeat against Genoa. They are now eight points adrift of safety with six games remaining.

Genoa raced into a 3-0 lead at Stadio Luigi Ferraris, before Carlos Carbonero pulled one back for the visitors. Frustration got the better of Cesena in the latter stages, as Ze Eduardo saw red in the dying moments of the match.

Parma, despite their dire situation at the foot of the table, have given their fans some reason to celebrate in the last few weeks, and they continued that with a 1-0 win over Palermo.

Former West Ham loanee Antonio Nocerino scored the only goal from the spot, but after a seven-point deduction earlier in the season, it is a case of too little, too late for Parma.

Verona got the better of Sassuolo in a mid-table battle on Sunday, eventually running out 3-2 winners to move back to 12th in Serie A.

Verona went down to 10 men early on in the match, but still managed to take a 1-0 lead. Sassuolo drew level shortly after, and it was left to Luca Toni to rescue the points for the home side, his second-half brace ensuring the win.

In the early kick-off, German Denis secured a last-gasp point for Atalanta against Empoli. Both sides are hovering precariously above the drop zone, but are likely to have extended a large enough gap to enable them to stave off relegation (eight and 12 points respectively).

The two sides were level at half-time, and a goal on the hour mark from Massimo Maccarone had looked to secure a precious away win for Empoli.

That was, until the 93rd minute, when Denis headed in substitute Urby Emanuelson’s cross to earn a 2-2 draw.

Duje Cop ensured Gianluca Festa's debut on the Cagliari bench went swimmingly with a brace to down Fiorentina 3-1 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

The former Inter Milan and Middlesbrough man has been charged with leading the Sardinians' survival bid and before kick-off they were 10 points shy of safety.

Seventeenth-placed Atalanta are now seven points away thanks to goals in each half from Cop and a last-gasp screamer from Diego Farias, while veteran striker Alberto Gilardino managed a late response for the hosts.

In the late game, Gonzalo Higuain scored twice as Napoli strengthened their claim for a Champions League place with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Sampdoria.

Raul Albiol's early own goal gave Samp a shock lead but fourth-placed Napoli wrested back control before half-time thanks to strikes from Manolo Gabbiadini and Higuain.

A superb third from Lorenzo Insigne put the Azzurri firmly in control and there was still time for Higuain to add another from the spot to bring Napoli to within two points of Roma.

Luis Muriel did grab a late second for Samp on Sunday night, but Sinisa Mihajlovic's men are now six points behind Napoli with only six games remaining.
