Mario Gomez is making encouraging progress in his recovery from a knee injury but the Fiorentina striker can expect to miss another month of Serie A action.
The 28-year-old, who joined the Viola from Bayern Munich last summer, damaged ligaments in his right knee back on September 16.
The Germany international was expected to make a comeback last month but his return was postponed after swelling in the surgically repaired knee.
"The tests done on Monday went well and I am better," Gomez said to www.firenzeviola.it. "No problems have emerged from the latest tests, hence, we will see what happens and when I will return to play.
"I don't want to speak too much, I just want to play considering I've only made two league appearances for Fiorentina this season.
"I want to thank everyone in Florence. I just want to help Fiorentina by returning very soon."
Fiorentina cannot wait for Gomez to return to play having lost the team's top scorer Giuseppe Rossi to a right knee injury earlier this month.
Rossi is expected to be sidelined for at least three months.
