Hoffenheim have snapped up Ghana international Afriyie Acquah from Palermo on a four-and-a-half-year contract.

The 21-year-old had spent the first half of the current campaign on loan at Palermo's Serie A rivals Parma.

He will, however, continue his career in the German top-flight.

Arsenal were reported to be weighing up an approach for the highly-rated midfielder at one stage, but Hoffenheim are delighted that they have been able to put a deal in place.

General manager Andreas Muller told Deutsche Pressagentur: "Afriyie Acquah will be able to boost our first team greatly, even at a young age.

"He is a quality player and has the ambition to become even better.

"In addition, he plays in a position we have been looking to reinforce due to a list of injured players."
