Inter Milan technical director Marco Branca has admitted they are unlikely to sign any new players in the January transfer window.

The Italian giants have been linked with a move for former star Mario Balotelli as doubts surround the future of the striker at Manchester City.

Inter are currently in Serie A, but Branca concedes the current economic climate means they will not be spending any money when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

"It's not down to where we are in the table but there are other factors to consider, but at this moment in time there's no way we'll be investing in January for other reasons," Branca told the club's official website.

"It's the same situation in many other industry sectors. We're in an economic crisis."

Branca also played down rumours that the club were in talk with Wesley Sneijder over taking a pay cut at the San Siro.

Reports have suggested Sneijder could be on his way out of Inter after finding himself out of favour this season.

Asked whether the Dutchman now has less power in dictating his contract terms now the team are playing well, Branca added: "He's got a contract with us, so I don't think we can talk about contractual power.

"Even if there were other things to discuss relating to his contract terms, they wouldn't be due to the team playing well or not. Is it true we've asked him to take a pay cut? That's our business."
