Young midfielder wants to work on development at AZ

Swedish midfielder Rasmus Elm has spurned the chance to play in the Premier League or Serie A in favour of staying with AZ Alkmaar, according to his agent. The highly-rated youngster has been linked with a move away from the Eredivisie club this summer, with Everton among those thought to be targeting his services. But the player's agent, Patrick Mork, claims the 23-year-old wants to stay in Alkmaar and work on his development before making the move to a high-profile club. "It is rare that a player behaves like Elm," Mork told Nyheter 24. "When juicy offers come by, most players never hesitate to move. "But Elm is different and not that attracted to the big clubs in the spotlight. "Elm likes it here and wants to continue to evolve and then move to a bigger side. He is wise because if you look at the track records, many Swedes have had problems when they play at the highest level." Elm, who arrived in Alkmaar from native club Kalmar in summer 2009, made 32 appearances for AZ last season, scoring five goals. The Sweden international is from a footballing family, with brother Viktor currently at Eredivisie side Heerenveen and other brother David at Swedish club Elfsborg having previously played for Fulham in the Premier League.
