Striker Tim Matavz's proposed move to Napoli has fallen through, Groningen have confirmed.
The 22-year-old, who scored 16 goals in 30 games this season, was in talks with the Serie A club and appeared to have agreed personal terms over a summer switch after an agreement was made last week.
However, Groningen have revealed that negotiations have broken down between the player and the Azzurri, and Matavz is expected to remain in the Eredivisie next season.
The club's director Hans Nijland said on their official website: "Matavz feels like he no longer wants to join Napoli because they did not reach an accord.
"He will remain with us for the 2011-12 season."
Slovenian international Matavz, who arrived in Groningen in 2007, is contracted at the club until 2013.
