Fiorentina have demanded that Riccardo Montolivo makes a decision over his future in the next three weeks.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, who are expected to be busy this summer after a disappointing domestic and European campaign, while Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.
Montolivo has admitted that the prospect of playing for a team who can offer UEFA Champions League football is appealing and he will be out of contract in 12 months' time.
As a result, Fiorentina, who can only finish as high as ninth in Serie A, may have to accept money for the 26-year-old in the approaching close-season.
Coach Sinisa Mihajilovic said ahead of Sunday's final game of the season at Brescia: "The moment has arrived when Montolivo must decide whether he is going to say yes or no.
"We need to know so we can plan the season with or without him.
"We cannot wait for Riccardo's decision for more than two or three weeks."
Mihajilovic added: "I would be happy if he stays. He's a great player and there has been a good relationship between us and he has helped me a lot."
