Fiorentina tipped to make defender swoop

Catania have admitted they are prepared to listen to offers for defender Pablo Alvarez, with Fiorentina thought to be interested. Alvarez has been with Catania since 2008 but has been in such good form this season that club director Pietro Lo Monaco concedes it will be difficult to keep hold of him. Sinisa Mihajlovic is reportedly eager to bring Alvarez to Fiorentina after working with the 26-year-old during his time in charge at Catania. There has been no approach yet but Lo Monaco is expecting a bid to be lodged and says Alvarez could be on his way in the January transfer window. "At the moment, I have not spoken to [Fiorentina sporting director Pantaleo] Corvino or anyone at Fiorentina," Lo Monaco told Firenzeviola.it.

Good rapport

"Alvarez is undoubtedly a quality player who can play on both sides of the pitch, and is ready to play for a bigger club. "As it stands, no negotiations exist between any club, but I understand that Mihajlovic - having coached him before - is interested in having him at the club. "Should Fiorentina come knocking for Alvarez, we would listen to their offer. It is no secret that a good rapport exists between the two clubs. "Should a good offer arrive, we would have no problem negotiating."
