Sao Paulo officials have confirmed Lazio are looking to sign Brazilian midfielder Hernanes.
The highly-rated 25-year-old, who has been capped once at international level, has spent his entire club career to date in his homeland.
But he is regarded as an exciting prospect for the future who could be successful in European football, and Lazio now appear poised to complete a deal.
Sao Paulo vice-president Carlos Augusto de Barros e Silva said: "Only a few details are missing.
"A few aspects must be defined yet, but it's only bureaucracy."
Sao Paulo director Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes, however, is not quite so certain that a move will go through, with some reports suggesting Benfica are also keen.
"Lazio are interested in the player but there are also other teams that have interest in him," he said.
