Italian eyes continue to track Pompey playmaker

Serie A outfit Genoa have revealed that they remain keen on Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng. The club's president, Gian Piero Gasperini, has admitted that the Ghana international is top of their summer wish list. They do, however, face plenty of competition for Boateng's signature, with numerous clubs reported to be keen. It appeared at one stage as though a deal would be struck with Lazio, but the Roman outfit are unwilling to meet Pompey's valuation. Genoa have yet to take things that far, as they continue to plan rather than act, but Gasperini believes midfield recruits are on the cards. Should they fail in their efforts to land Boateng, Sporting Lisbon ace Miguel Veloso has emerged as another potential new arrival.

Targets

"Boateng? For me he is the first name on the list," said Gasperini. "Miguel Veloso? We'll see, there's no hurry to sign midfielders. I've seen a lot of names mentioned in that role and it is not easy to identify targets. "The important thing is that the players we get meet our requirements. It may be a day, or a month, it is not a problem. "The arrivals of (Luca) Toni and Eduardo cover very important positions for us and they are two players who we will look to this season." Meanwhile, Genoa have completed the signing of Jose Manuel Flores Moreno, 'Chico', from Spanish outfit Almeria. The 23-year-old has been drafted in to help add steel at the heart of the back four.
