England ace thankful for messages of support

David Beckham has thanked well-wishers for their messages of support and is targeting a 'swift recovery'. The 34-year-old is currently on his way to Finland to undergo surgery on his injured Achilles, having picked up the knock while on duty for AC Milan on Sunday. Initial reports suggest the former England captain is destined to sit out this summer's World Cup as a result of the problem. It is believed that Beckham will require between three and five months to recover from his operation, which would end any hopes he had of heading to South Africa. He is due under the knife on Monday afternoon and will have a better understanding as to how long he will be sidelined for once his surgery is completed.

Specialist

For now, Beckham is attempting to put a brave face on the untimely injury and is focusing on returning to full fitness as quickly as possible. "I am on my way to Finland to see a specialist and have a scan on the injury," Beckham wrote on his official website. "I am upset but want to thank everyone for their messages of support. "I hope to make a swift and full recovery."
