Midfielder hails manager Del Neri

Reto Ziegler has expressed his happiness with life at Sampdoria under new boss Luigi Del Neri. The Swiss midfielder moved to Stadio Luigi Ferraris from Tottenham in 2007 but found himself on the fringes after Walter Mazzarri replaced Walter Novellino in the manager's hot-seat. He was given few opportunities to impress by Mazzarri but has given more responsibility by Del Neri, who took charge in the summer. Samp are currently second in the Serie A table and Ziegler has played a major role with a string of eye-catching performances. "I have lived two strange years," he explained to Tuttosport. "I arrived at Samp when [Walter] Novellino was in charge and he gave me a chance. "I'd say that first season was positive as Samp snapped up my rights. Then Mazzarri came along and he never wanted me. "He didn't understand me and I didn't understand him. "On the other hand, Del Neri told me he had faith in me right away and that he counted on me. Besides, I know his 4-4-2 system very well as we use it in the national team."
