Wolfsburg defender Cristian Zaccardo is aiming to leave the German champions before the close of the transfer window in order to return to Italy.
The 27-year-old joined Wolfsburg from Palermo last summer, but has struggled to command regular first-team football in the Bundesliga.
He has barely featured so far this season and the full-back is hoping Wolfsburg will allow him to head back to Serie A within the next week.
"In five games, including the season and the German Supercup, I have played only five minutes and, on top of it, in midfield," said Zaccardo.
"It is not an easy situation.
"There is a club in Italy interested in me and if I have to be on the bench here I would rather return to my country.
"The club (Wolfsburg) know of the interest and I expect a decision soon."
Zaccardo, who has been linked with AC Milan, is under contract with Wolfsburg until June 2011.
