Julio Cruz has joined Lazio on a one-year deal following his departure from Inter Milan at the end of last term.
The contract includes an option for a second season after Lazio beat off competition from a number of other clubs to secure his signature.
The likes of Napoli, Fiorentina, Roma and Atletico Madrid were all understood to be interested in the Argentine striker.
Cruz has been signed in time to make the trip to Beijing, where Lazio will face his former club Inter in the Italian Super Cup.
Goran Pandev, Lorenzo De Silvestri and Cristian Ledesma have all been left out of the squad for the clash with Inter after requesting transfers.
