Atalanta forward Ferreira Pinto will miss the rest of the Serie A season with a serious knee injury.
The 29-year-old Brazilian suffered the injury in his side's 3-0 away defeat to AC Milan on Sunday. Subsequent scans revealed that he had ruptured the cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The injury will require surgery and is expected to keep him off the pitch for around six months. The news comes as a major blow for Pinto, who had attracted the interest of Serie A powerhouse Roma.
Luigi Delneri's team are currently 10th in the Serie A table, comfortably clear of the relegation struggle.
