Brazilian outfit Flamengo have confirmed that they are set to step up their efforts to sign Adriano.
Negotiations are set to begin in the near future, with the player's agent set to open talks with Inter Milan in regards to a possible transfer.
Flamengo director Kleber Leite insists Adriano has expressed an interest in returning to the club where he began his career as a talented teenager in 2000 and is confident of reaching an agreement.
Leite also revealed that the club are prepared to make the 26-year-old one of the country's best paid players.
"We will offer something to Adriano that will be one of the top contracts in Brazil," he said.
Problems
Flamengo were also keen on signing Adriano's international team-mate Ronaldo, but saw the former World Player of the Year snub them in favour of a switch to Corinthians.
"Leave Ronaldo where he is," added Leite.
"He wanted to go to Corinthians and that is his problem."
While they remain optimistic of landing their latest target, Inter president Massimo Moratti has once again reiterated his desire to keep Adriano in Italy.
The Serie A giants have allowed the striker to head home for Christmas early as he is currently nursing a knock, but are expecting him back at Giuseppe Meazza in the New Year.
"I personally would like to keep him because he has great ability, but at the same time many difficulties," Moratti told the club's
official website.
"Whatever he does he is always being followed by the papers. He lives under difficult conditions, but hopefully we can overcome them."
