Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu is in a race against time to be fit for their opening Serie A clash against Juventus.
The 29-year-old suffered an elbow injury while training with the Romania squad for their friendly against Latvia on Wednesday.
Mutu has now been ruled out of the second leg of the Viola's Champions League qualifier aginst Slavia Prague and is doubtful for their league opener on August 31.
The former Chelsea and Juve frontman fell awkwardly and did not initially realise he had sustained an injury.
"I injured myself without realising it," he told Sports.Ro.
"In fact I continued to train as if nothing had happened and then the pain suddenly hit me.
"This kind of thing is part and parcel of life as a professional footballer. I have dislocated my elbow and now I have a cast."
