Defender makes move following Roma exit

Genoa have fought off competition from several clubs to land defender Matteo Ferrari. Ferrari, who had a loan spell at Everton in the 2005/06 season, was a free agent after seeing out his contract at Roma. The likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan Fiorentina, Juventus and Manchester City had all been linked with the Italy international. However, Ferrari has now agreed a deal with Genoa and been officially presented as a new signing. "Another precious move. Matteo Ferrari has signed for the Rossoblu today," read a statement on the club's official website.

Roma close on Baptista

Roma may not have been able to keep hold of Ferrari but they are expected to complete the signing of Julio Baptista from Real Madrid. Roma directors have flown out to Spain to discuss a deal, reportedly worth in the region of £8million, after Baptista demanded a move away from the Bernabeu. "Julio is not happy with the situation at Real Madrid, especially as he doesn't want to stay on the bench anymore," said the Brazilian's agent Herminio Menendez. "Baptista wants to work for a club where he can play. He certainly wouldn't go to just any side. "Roma are a great club and he'd be very happy to join them, but they are the ones who have to reach an agreement with Real first."
