Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero has stressed that the club's supporters were the main reason behind his decision to sign a new contract.

With his previous contract due to expire, Del Piero had been linked with a move away from the club he joined in 1993, but he agreed a new two-year deal this week and says his career is far from over.

"One of the reasons was definitely the feeling I have for the supporters," he told the Italian press. "Their help has been crucial to me.

"My contract is not one to end my career with - in fact, we spoke about the present and the future."

Del Piero's two-year deal is understood to be worth €7.7m (£5.3m), but he claims the club did not make the decision to offer him a new contract based on money.

"Juve also understood the financial aspect wasn't the most important one.

"We also spoke about collaborating in marketing situations."
