Inter defender won't play under Pinto

Ivan Cordoba has revealed he is refusing to play for Colombia while Jorge Luis Pinto is in charge. The Internazionale defender informed the national team coach of his feelings after Colombia's early exit from Copa America 2007. Cordoba continues to stand by the decision, meaning he will miss the opening qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup.

Important

"Once the Copa America finished I said to Pinto that while he was the coach of Colombia I didn't want to be recalled to the team and I have not changed my mind about that," he told the South American press. "I have even sent a letter to the Football Association officials confirming this. "I thought that it was important to confirm my position because I don't want any misunderstandings in the future. "The reason is I don't agree about many things with Pinto. I don't like the way in which he works with the players and in addition to that I never felt I had his confidence." Colombia host Brazil in the first round of matches in South American qualifying on Sunday, before playing Bolivia three days later.
