Luca Toni admits he will adopt a patient approach in his bid to be fit for Italy's upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.
The Bayern Munich striker is rated doubtful to face France and Ukraine next month after hurting his hamstring against Hannover at the weekend.
He was initially ruled out for three weeks, but is now expected to recover in around 10 days, giving him a live chance of lining up against France on 8th September.
Toni is hopeful of being fit for his country, but is aware of the need for constant assessment of the injury.
"It's not a bad thing," Toni told Rai TV. "I hope to recover soon.
"I'd like to play in all the matches, but I'll go on the pitch only if I feel good.
"The national team? I've spoken with the Azzurri doctor and we will evaluate the situation day by day."
