Lazio have signed up-and-coming Uruguayan shotstopper Fernando Muslera in a bid to resolve their goalkeeping crisis.
The Biancocelesti netted Argentinian keeper Juan Carlos Carrizo over the summer. But securing his EU citizenship - an essential part of the deal - has run into trouble.
It is hoped the highly-regarded 21-year-old from Nacional Montevideo will prove ideal back-up while the Carrizo saga is sorted.
Muslera, who has also been linked with Arsenal, Juventus and Inter Milan in the past, said: "I'm really happy to be here at Lazio.
"I have a big will to grow and do good things - I know Serie A is a strong league."
Meanwhile, Simone Inzaghi has completed his transfer to Atalanta.
Inzaghi chose Atalanta over Cagliari to follow in the footsteps of his brother Filippo, who made great strides at the Bergamo club en route to football stardom.
Inzaghi the younger played just five matches for Lazio due to injuries and tactical decisions, but is hoping for more opportunities with Atalanta.
